Pakistan's new cotton market is on the low side

In the first half of December, Pakistan's new cotton was only listed at 170,000 tons, lower than the average for the same period over the years. As of December 15, the total number of new cotton stocks in Pakistan during the year was less than 1.598 million tons, a decrease of 17% over the same period of last year.

The purchase rate of Pakistan's new cotton increased. In the first half of December, it purchased 173,000 tons of seed cotton and 174,000 tons of cotton in the second half of November.

By December 15th, Pakistan’s cumulative acquisition volume this year was 1.594 million tons, which was 17% less than the same period of last year; of which, the number of Punjab was 1.03 million tons, and Sindh Province was 565,000 tons.

In the current year, 1.427 million tons of lint have been processed, of which 1.406 million tons have been sold, including 70,000 tons purchased by exporters; sales were 1.707 million tons in the same period last year.

At present, the unsold inventory is 188,000 tons (including raw seed cotton hemp cotton), which was 210,000 tons in the same period of last year.

The latest forecast by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) shows that Pakistan's cotton production this season was only 1.916 million tons, or the lowest level in more than six years. In the past six months, the USDA has cumulatively lowered this forecast by 370,000 tons. Since the peak season has already passed, the number of new cotton crops may be further reduced in the later period. The prospects for cotton production in Pakistan this year appear to be less optimistic.
