Gohar: Pakistan's textile industry has internal strength

The newly elected chairman of the APTMA Central Committee, Gühar. Ajjaz demanded that the U.S. government provide market access to Pakistan in keeping with the EU, because Pakistan urgently needs new jobs to overcome the severe impact of the flood.

Ghuhar said that Pakistan’s textile industry has inherent strength. The United States should voluntarily propose these mechanisms and increase Pakistan’s textile exports to the United States, reaching US$20 billion. In addition, exports of US$100 million can also generate 10,000 jobs.

Ghohar said that once the United States has expanded its free market access just as the European Union, Pakistan can overcome its trade deficit of 10 billion U.S. dollars.

While emphasizing the importance of tax-free entry, Ghuhar said that Bangladesh’s exports have risen sharply from 5 billion U.S. dollars in 2005 to 18 billion U.S. dollars in 2010, and 30 million jobs have been created in the textile industry.

Ghuhar said that in the past few years, Pakistan’s exports have stagnated and trade concessions recently obtained from the EU will push Pakistan’s exports. It is estimated that Pakistan’s exports to the EU can reach 2 billion U.S. dollars a year after it has the EU market access mechanism.
