Guatemala exports 10% of textile and garment exports this year

According to estimates of the Guatemalan Exporters Association (Agexport), Guatemala’s exports will increase by 12.6% by the end of 2010, of which non-traditional product exports will reach $5.895 billion, an increase of 12.9% from 2009, and agricultural exports will be 9 Billion 1,170 million US dollars, compared with 2009, will grow 4.2%.

Industrial products increased by US$2.2 million over 2009 and grew by 12.3%.

Textile garments increased by US$1.3 million, a growth of 10%, and other products were US$1.2 million, a growth of 12%.

In 2010, exports of furniture and aquatic products were affected due to the typhoons of Ágatha and the volcanic eruption of Pacaya, causing exports to decline by 11.6-25.6%.

Hugo Mául, head of the National Economic Research Center of Guatemala, said that in 2012 exports will increase from $8.1 billion in 2010 to $9.2 billion, a growth of 13.7%.
