what to make with it: rose quartz and serenity
Every December, Pantone, the global authority on color, reveals its "Color of the Year," and 2015 saw the introduction of Marsala, while 2014 brought Radiant Orchid. Last week, however, they doubled the excitement by selecting not one but two colors for the year: a soft pink called Rose Quartz and a serene blue known as Serenity. These hues, inspired by the Pantone Color of the Year, are bound to resonate beautifully in sewing projects, especially those focused on children's wear—great news for all of us!
As you plan your sewing projects for the coming year, consider incorporating shades of Rose Quartz and Serenity. To help spark your creativity, I’ve curated some fabric selections inspired by these colors and paired them with popular Oliver + S patterns. Below are just a few ideas to demonstrate how seamlessly these colors can be integrated.
1) Embrace the charm of pastels by opting for Liesl’s delicate pink print from her Woodland Clearing collection or a classic blue gingham. Both would create an adorable Lullaby Layette.
2) The Roller Skate Dress would highlight a stunning geometric cotton voile beautifully, making it a standout piece.
3) A Carousel Dress crafted from dupioni silk would exude elegance and grace.
4) Pair a cat-printed Hopscotch Knit Top with a chambray Hopscotch Skirt for an irresistibly cute ensemble.
5) For comfort and style, sew a School Bus T-shirt in a calming blue knit and match it with a vibrant unicorn-print Swingset Skirt.
6) For boys, a Sketchbook Shirt in a blue and white stripe paired with corduroy Art Museum Trousers in shades of brown would blend perfectly with Serenity.
7) A Butterfly Blouse in a charming pink print alongside a pastel blue Butterfly Skirt would make for a delightful outfit.
8) Lastly, a Playtime Tunic in a floral pattern combined with Playtime Leggings in organic cotton jersey would provide both style and practicality.
I’m certain many of you have already experimented with these colors in your sewing endeavors. Now, it’s your chance to share your creations using Rose Quartz and Serenity from Oliver + S, Liesl + Co., and Straight Stitch Society. We’ll keep the linky party open until the end of 2016.
While we’re on the topic, I’d love to hear more about how you incorporate colors into your sewing projects. Do you prefer bold contrasts or subtle blends? Let’s discuss and inspire each other further!
