introducing the liesl + co cinema dress sewing pattern

When we first launched the Oliver + S Hide-and-Seek Dress last season, we received numerous requests from many of you wanting to sew it for yourselves. Honestly, I couldn't be happier about that because I had always dreamed of creating an adult version of that pattern! Well, here we are: introducing the Liesl + Co. Cinema Dress, available in women’s sizes 0-20. I am completely in love with this dress. It’s effortlessly stylish, comfortable, and versatile, making it a wardrobe staple. It shares all the best features of the Hide-and-Seek Dress: the front pockets with those adorable welt details, princess seams, a yoke that can be contrasted with another fabric if desired, and three-quarter-length cuffed sleeves. The new Cinema Dress pattern offers two dress lengths: View A hits just below the knee, while View B extends to a mid-calf length, which has become so trendy recently. Feel free to adjust the length as per your preference. Personally, I usually add about two inches to View B since I’m tall, but you could also shorten View A for a mini-dress or even wear it as a tunic for a completely different vibe. One of the things I adore about this dress is how it can be customized with various fabrics to suit different occasions and seasons. For summer, I've enjoyed wearing it in lightweight linen, but for fall, I'm planning to make another version using washed silk. I think it will feel luxurious and elegant, giving off a modern aesthetic. Indigo ikat prints also appeal to me, and I might just have to try that soon. Fine wale corduroy or a lightweight wool would be fantastic choices for colder months. This dress reminds me of Frida Kahlo—its style feels so bold and unique. Imagine it with an embroidered yoke; it would look incredible! The pattern is perfect for adding embellishments or contrasting fabrics, much like traditional huipils. It's also a timeless piece that works across all seasons. I plan on wearing mine all through fall and winter! For those who need adjustments, I’ve included instructions for a full-bust adjustment to help with fitting. The princess seams are super helpful too—making it easier to tweak the fit if necessary. I know you guys appreciate styling tips, so I’ve been collecting inspiration on my Liesl + Co. Pinterest board. I’ll keep adding more ideas there, and perhaps some styling tips for upcoming patterns as well. Personally, I paired this dress with sandals this summer—both flat and heeled ones depending on the occasion. Come fall and winter, I’ll be styling it with my favorite boots, maybe even tall ones when the weather gets chillier. Accessories aren’t always necessary, but I do enjoy adding a bold cuff bracelet or a statement necklace. A long cardigan or scarf would also work beautifully during cooler days. How are you thinking of styling your Cinema Dress? I can’t wait to see what you create!
