Lenzing announces new generation of Wooddale products

October 19, 2011, Shanghai. At the China International Textile Fabrics and Accessories (Autumn and Winter) Expo, Lenzing introduced its eco-friendly innovative product – Lenzing Modal – Edelweiss – a brand-new fiber produced using a new environmentally friendly technology process.

Lenzing Group has always been a benchmark in technology and environmental protection in the field of cellulose fibers. In order to maintain the honor of the industry's best practice model, Lenzing has spared no effort to maintain a huge investment in environmental protection. Lenzing made a new achievement with its firm determination: the Edelweiss process. This technology incorporates all environmental advantages, such as carbon neutrality, low land use, and sustainable natural raw materials, which make Lenzing Modal Edelweiss a truly environmentally friendly fiber.

The quality of the environmental protection technology from Austria, Lenzing Modal-Edelweiss, is the same as that of the traditional Lenzing Modal. It has the same characteristics of soft, bright colors and even no difference in the process flow in the textile supply chain. Mr. Anders Dorner of Lenzing Group explained why Edelweiss is so unique: “The fiber production plant in Lenzing, Austria, is the only factory in the world that has achieved full integration, and all production steps from pulp to fiber have been tightened. The monitoring has paid special attention to environmental issues throughout the production process. Based on the Odelization process, Edelweiss technology is more environmentally friendly than previous processes. Therefore Lenzing Modals – Edelweiss is the only modal fiber that meets the highest environmental standards.” In the initial stage of product promotion, Lenzing only produces a limited number of customers who have special environmental requirements.

Austrian eucalyptus is a raw material ranunculous – extracted from eucalyptus. Beech has a long history and is very unique. Eucalyptus forests grow in northern and central Europe and have now become a unique landscape in these areas. The plant is deeply rooted and can maintain the acid-base balance of the soil, which is conducive to improving the global environment. Eucalyptus grows by itself through "regeneration", so there is no need to reforest or rebuild plantations. Eucalyptus forests grow on marginal lands and can harvest large amounts of cellulose without irrigation, fertilization, or worming.

Most of the wood used at the Lenzing plant comes from Austria, and the rest is imported from neighboring countries. These eucalyptus trees are produced from trees that strictly comply with the sustainable forest laws. This means that the biological communities in the forest maintain a balance, which in turn forms a defensive system that can withstand natural disasters, reserves a large amount of drinking water, and becomes a resting place and a habitat for animals and plants.
