Aragonite brief

The aragonite chemical composition is Ca(CO3) (not an orthorhombic system). It is homogenous with calcite. In the crystal structure of aragonite, (CO32-) is arranged in a manner of approximately hexagonal closest packing, each Ca2+ is located between 6 (CO32-), and a total of 9 O2-coordinates, each O2- Linked to 3 Ca2+ and one C4+. The crystal is columnar or spear-shaped, and the common pseudo-hexagonal three-crystal is common. The aggregates are mostly shell-like, braided, bean-like, spherulitic, and the like. Usually white, yellowish white. The glass is lustrous, the grease is shiny on the fracture, and the surface is cleaved incompletely, and the fracture is shell-shaped. Moss hardness is 3.5 to 4.5, and specific gravity is 2.9 to 3.0. In nature, aragonite is unstable and often turns into calcite. It is mainly formed under exogenous conditions and appears in serpentine petrochemical superbasic rock weathering crust and limestone cave. The materials that make up the nacre of pearl and mollusk shells are exactly the same as aragonite, but they are formed by bio-organic effects and are not in the category of minerals.

Vermiculite is a carbonate mineral. Both calcite and vermiculite are two types of calcium carbonate polymorphs that occur naturally and are common. The crystal lattice of the vermiculite is different from the crystal lattice of the calcite, so the shape of the crystal is also different. The shape of the meteorite may be columnar crystal or fibrous, and occasionally it also has a stalactite-like shape. This shape is called steel flower.

Chemical composition: CaCO3, CaO56.03%, CO243.97%. Often containing manganese and iron;

It has the same chemical composition as calcite and is a homogenous phenomenon. The difference is that the aragonite is an orthorhombic system and the calcite is a trigonal system.

Identification characteristics: its specific gravity is distinguished from calcite and dolomite; it is distinguished from calcite by dyeing;

Causes of production: In the natural world, the aragonite is far less than calcite. Mainly formed in exogenous effects. As a product of biochemical action, it is found in the shells or callus of many animals. The main constituent of pearls is also aragonite, which can also be formed directly in seawater. The aragonite of the internal generation is the low temperature product of the last stage of the hydrothermal fluid, and the aragonite is also produced in the hot spring sediment.
