This diamond was named "The Blue Moon of Josephine." On the previous day, a Hong Kong buyer bought a 16.08-carat pink diamond for 28.7 million Swiss francs (about 182 million yuan). The diamond was later named "Sweet Josephine." And the buyers are exactly the same.

The purchase of "sweet Josephine" is the Hong Kong rich businessman Liu Yuxiong, the diamond he bought for his daughter. In 2009, Liu Shaoxiong took a rare blue diamond for HK$74 million and named it "The Star of Josephine" to his daughter.

At the Sotheby's auction on November 11, the blue diamonds set in the ring are the main characters. The diamond was valued at between $35 million and $55 million (2.22 billion yuan to 349 million yuan) before the auction.

Bennett, global chairman of Sotheby's International Jewellery Division, said that the price of 48.6 million Swiss francs has set a record, whether it is a single diamond price or a price per carat.

The previous record was a GraffPink sold at the Sotheby's auction in November 2010, when the 24.78-carat diamond was sold for $46.2 million.

Bennett said that after successfully purchasing the diamond, the buyer has named it "Josephine." He said that in his career, he has never seen such a beautiful diamond, including shape, color and purity. "This is a magical diamond."

This blue diamond was found in a diamond mine in South Africa.

As for the "sweet Josephine" sold at the Christie's auction the previous day, according to Christie's, in the history of about 250 years of auction, there were only three pure pink diamonds over 10 carats.

"Sweet Josephine" was sold at a price of 180 million yuan. Christie's Chairman Gullil believes that this price is very good, because the quality of this diamond is rare on a global scale.

“This shows that the auction market is very healthy..... There is a lot of cash flowing around the world. Art, diamonds and jewelry are very safe assets.”

The "Blue Moon" diamond weighs 12.03 carats and the original stone weighs 29.6 carats. It was excavated in the Cullinan Diamond District in South Africa in January 2014.
